In the past few years, many companies seem to be focusing on organizational culture, diversity, and inclusion more than ever before. In recent years multi-million companies or even trillion-dollar companies like Apple and Google have been seriously investing in their culture and their people.
Goods and materials can be bought. Knowledge and expertise to develop products or services can be hired. But what money can’t buy is a creative and innovative culture — which is strongly linked to new products, services, and solutions that will make businesses succeed, expand their markets and be more profitable.
Research has found that organizations can produce more effective results when creativeness and innovation are nurtured through the support of diversity of thought and how these thoughts are handled. Factors such as how teams collaborate, how they share ideas, how they include more perspectives and how they come up with action plans to move forward are absolutely keys to reach better success. Also, research has demonstrated that not only is it important how people work but how people are led is also fundamental. Leaders that embrace diversity, foster respect, and lead with empathy are better suited to come up with better solutions, resulting in more profits for their business. Not only do they reach their corporate and personal goals, but also they tremendously influence the happiness of their teams and superiors. Researchers at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business surveyed CEOs and CFOs from nearly 1,400 organizations about the importance of culture in business, and 92% said that improving culture would increase their organization’s value.
Knowing this, it is no surprise that big and successful companies are serious about investing in their people and in developing a culture where diverse thoughts and perspectives can work together towards the common goals and taking them to the next level.
Now, if you have asked yourself, what is all the fuss about diversity and inclusion in the workforce lately? It is clear that embracing diversity is the right thing to do. However, this is not a tradeoff. It is also one of the best ways to produce creative solutions and burst innovation resulting in increasing profits to businesses.
