Recently, I had the opportunity to participate in the Dare to Lead Leadership Development training, created by the incredible Brené Brown and facilitated by the wonderful Ei Ei Samai—someone I’m honored to call my friend.

One of the exercises was to write an I Am poem. I don’t consider myself a poetic writer and initially thought about skipping it. But as I leaned into the spirit of Daring to Lead, I asked myself, Why not? So, I gave it a try.

Today, I’m sharing my I Am poem with you as part of my journey to embracing vulnerability and showing up as my true self.

I am poem

I am a dual nature girl who loves nature

I wonder how the ocean keeps a harmonious existence with its vast diversity and strength

I hear the trees’ stories and their warm comfort

I see the hearts and compassion of beings

I want to spread love, light, and joy all around

I am a dual nature girl who loves nature

I pretend I can fly and jump from cloud to cloud

I feel rainbow caressing me and making me smile

I touch the stars, and it brings me joy

I worry about our dear nature and how we disturb her

I cry when people can’t see the hearts of beings

I am a dual nature girl who loves nature

I understand yin doesn’t exist without yang

I say let it go, let it be, whisper words of wisdom

I dream of joy across the universe

I try one step at a time, calmly

I hope I can visit many more trees, flowers, lakes, and oceans and learn from them

I am a dual nature girl who loves nature
